No, the title is not a typo. National Geographic explorer James Cameron has decided to take one of the biggest leaps of faith in history and embark on the adventure of a lifetime — the deepsea challenge. He will travel almost seven miles below the ocean’s surface in the South Pacific. Mariana’s Trench is the deepest trench on Earth.
Why is Cameron risking his life to accomplish a feat equal to that of landing a man on the moon? For knowledge, of course! Scientists barely know what lives down there or what the ecosystem is like in the dark, cold, unknown world of Mariana’s Trench.
It’s people like Cameron who inspire me every day. He is not afraid of the unknown. He lives for exploration. I want to be like that. I wish I could take this dive with him. Luckily, National Geographic is doing a great job with this series. I can follow Cameron’s exploration with every mile he gets closer to the bottom.
